Description:
Will Dormann has reported some vulnerabilities in InstallShield InstallFromTheWeb, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerabilities are caused due to unspecified errors within the "InstallFromTheWeb" ActiveX Control (iftw.dll) and the plugin for Netscape-style browsers (npiftw32.dll), which can be exploited to cause buffer overflows.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code by e.g. tricking a user into visiting a malicious website.

Solution:
Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX control. Delete the npiftw32.dll.

Reportedly, the vendor does not support the product anymore.

Provided and/or discovered by:
Will Dormann, CERT/CC.
