Description: shinnai has discovered a vulnerability in BarCodeWiz Barcode ActiveX control, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the BarcodeWiz module ActiveX control (BarcodeWiz.dll) when handling arguments passed to the "Verify()" method. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long (greater than 1024 bytes) string passed as argument to the said method.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code when a user visits a malicious website.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2.52. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX control.
Provided and/or discovered by: shinnai
Changelog: 2007-05-10: Added CVE reference.
