rPath hat ein Update für file herausgegeben. Dieses behebt eine Sicherheitslücke und ein Sicherheitsproblem, welche von böswilligen Personen ausgenutzt werden können, um einen DoS (Denial of Service) zu verursachen oder ein verwundbares System zu kompromittieren.

Das Sicherheitsproblem wird durch bestimmte reguläre Ausdrücke verursacht, die beim Identifizieren einer speziell präparierten Datei alle vorhandenen CPU-Ressourcen verbrauchen könnten. Dies kann ausgenutzt werden, um z.B. einen DoS (Denial of Service) zu verursachen, indem man z.B. ein automatisiertes System dazu bringt, eine bösartige Datei mit dem Befehl "file" zu identifizieren.
