Description: Tavis Ormandy has reported some vulnerabilities in Bochs, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or compromise a vulnerable system.
1) The emulated NE2000 device of Bochs does not correctly check if the value in the TXCNT register is bigger than the available memory on the device, which can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code in the context of the Bochs process, but requires that the attacker has the necessary privileges to manipulate the TXCNT register.
2) A divide-by-zero error within the emulated floppy disk controller can be exploited to crash the Bochs process.
