Description

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Absolute Poll Manager XE, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and bypass certain security restrictions and by malicious users to conduct SQL injection attacks.

1) Input passed to the "msg" parameter in xlaapmview.asp (when "p" is set to a numeric value) is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to the "text" parameter in search.asp is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

3) Input passed to the "orderby" parameter in search.asp is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities requires valid administrator credentials.

4) Input passed to the "p" parameter in xlacomments.asp is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

5) The vulnerability is caused due to the application allowing access to the admin interface by checking if a certain cookie exists. This can be exploited to gain administrative access to the application by creating the cookie "xlaAPM%5Fusr" and assigning it the value "administrator".

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 4.1. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised. Ensure that proper access restrictions are implemented.
