Description

Some vulnerabilities and a security issue have been reported in Simple PHP Blog, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions and conduct script insertion and cross-site request forgery attacks and disclose sensitive information, and by malicious users to disclose sensitive information and compromise a vulnerable system.

1) Input passed in the "Client-IP" and "X-Forwarded-For" HTTP headers is trusted from all clients. This can be exploited to bypass IP address checks by connecting to Simple PHP Blog and sending arbitrary values in one of the headers.

2) Input passed in the "Client-IP" HTTP header to comment_add_cgi.php is not properly sanitised before being stored. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which is executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious data is viewed. It can also be exploited for session fixation attacks.

3) Input passed to the "lang2" parameter in languages_cgi.php is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from local resources.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires valid administrator credentials and that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

4) A vulnerability is caused due to the application allowing users to perform certain actions via HTTP requests without performing any validity checks to verify the request. This can be exploited to e.g. include local files (see #3), delete files, or execute arbitrary PHP code.

5) The emoticons.php script that handles emoticon uploads does not correctly restrict certain types of uploaded files. This can be exploited to e.g. execute arbitrary PHP code by uploading a specially crafted PHP script that is also a valid JPEG or GIF image.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires valid user credentials.

6) The problem is that user credentials are stored in the "config/users.php" file inside the web root. This can be exploited to disclose usernames and password hashes.

7) Input passed to the "blog_language1" parameter in languages_cgi.php is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from local resources via directory traversal attacks.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires valid administrator credentials and that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

The vulnerabilities and the security issue are reported in version 0.5.1. Other versions may also be affected.
