Description:
porkythepig has reported some vulnerabilities in HP Quick Launch Button, which can be exploited by malicious people to gain knowledge of certain system information, manipulate registry data, and to compromise a user's system.

1) The HPInfoDLL.HPInfo.1 ActiveX control (HPInfoDLL.dll) includes the insecure "LaunchApp()" method, which can be exploited to execute arbitrary commands on a vulnerable system.

2) The HPInfoDLL.HPInfo.1 ActiveX control (HPInfoDLL.dll) includes the insecure "GetRegValue()" and "SetRegValue()" methods, which can be exploited to read registry information or to write to the registry.

The vulnerabilities are reported in HP Info Center version 1.0.1.1 and reportedly affect the following:
* HP Compaq business notebooks with HP Quick Launch Button version 6.3 and prior
* HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario consumer notebooks with HP Quick Launch Button versions 6.0 to 6.3

Solution:
Apply updates. Please see the vendor's advisory for more information on how to obtain the updates.

HP Compaq nc, nx, nw and tc Series business notebook PC models (e.g. nc6230, nw8440) not running Microsoft .NET 2.0 or later:
Apply HP SoftPaq SP38266 or later.

HP 500, 510, 520 and 530 business notebook PC models:
Apply HP SoftPaq SP38266 or later.

HP Compaq business notebook PC model numbers ending in the letter b, p, s or w (e.g. 6515b, 6910p, 8510w):
Apply HP SoftPaq SP38171 or later.

HP Compaq nc, nx, nw and tc Series business notebook PC models (e.g. nc6230, nw8440) running Microsoft .NET 2.0 or later:
Apply HP SoftPaq SP38171 or later.

HP, HP Pavilion, and Compaq Presario consumer notebook PCs:
Apply HP SoftPaq SP38171 or later.
