Description: A security issue has been reported in Apache Tomcat, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions.
The security issue is caused due to insufficient security restrictions being imposed on the JULI component by the default logging security policy. This can be exploited by untrusted web applications to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the permissions of the Apache Tomcat process via a specially crafted logging configuration.
The security issue is reported in versions 5.5.9 through 5.5.25 and 6.0.0 through 6.0.15.
Solution: Update to version 5.5.26 or 6.0.16.
Provided and/or discovered by: The vendor credits Delian Krustev.
Changelog: 2008-02-11: Updated "Solution" section.
