Description

Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in PortalApp, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting and SQL injection attacks or bypass certain security restrictions.

1) Input passed via the "keywords" parameter to forums.asp and content.asp is not properly sanitised before being returned to a user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

This is related to:
SA14749

2) Input passed to the "sortby" parameter in forums.asp is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

3) Access to various functions in forums.asp and Content.asp is not properly restricted. This can be exploited to e.g. create forums and topics, or to delete forums, topics, and replies by sending specially crafted requests.

4) Input passed via the "user_name", "password", "ret_page", and "email" parameters to login.asp is not properly sanitised before being returned to a user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 4.0. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised and access to dangerous actions is properly restricted.
