Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in vtiger CRM, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose potentially sensitive information and conduct cross-site request forgery attacks.
1) The vulnerability is caused due to the application not correctly restricting access to e.g. the /test/wordtemplatedownload directory, which can be exploited to list and download directory contents.
2) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP requests without performing any validity checks to verify the requests. This can be exploited to e.g. create an arbitrary user with administrative privileges if a logged-in administrative user visits a malicious web site.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in versions 5.1.0 and 5.3.0. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Restrict access to affected directories (e.g. via ".htaccess"). The vendor added "htaccess.txt" to version CRM 5.0.4 RC. Renaming this file to ".htaccess" prohibits the listing of directory content. Do not browse untrusted sites or follow untrusted links while being logged-in to the application.
Provided and/or discovered by: 1) Reported in a bug by "pieper".
