Description:
A vulnerability has been reported in the Linux Kernel, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions and corrupt a file system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an error when checking the open flags and access modes when opening a directory. This can be exploited to truncate directories by calling the "open()" system call with certain flags.
Successful exploitation requires write privileges for the directory to be truncated.
The vulnerability is reported in version 2.6.15 up to versions prior to 2.6.22.16 or 2.6.23.14. Other versions may also be affected.
