Description: Luigi Auriemma has reported some vulnerabilities in Borland StarTeam, which can be exploited by malicious users or malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
1) Input validation errors within the TmsgBufMsgDeserializeEx function in STMessageBroker67 can be exploited to e.g. crash the service or cause a heap-based buffer overflow via specially crafted packets sent to default port 5101/TCP.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
2) Integer overflow errors within the StarTeam Server (starteamserver.exe) can be exploited to cause heap-based buffer overflows via specially crafted packets sent to default port 49201/TCP.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code but requires valid user credentials.
The vulnerabilities are reported in Borland StarTeam Server 2008 / StarTeamMPX version 6.7. Other versions may also be affected.
