Where: From remote
Solution Status: Unpatched

Software:BigAnt Messenger 2.x

CVE reference:CVE-2008-1914 (Secunia mirror)

This advisory is currently marked as unpatched!
- Companies can be alerted when a patch is released!

Description:
Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in BigAnt Messenger, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose certain information or compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A boundary error in the AntServer Module (AntServer.exe) can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow e.g. by sending a specially crafted, overly long HTTP GET request to default port 6080/TCP.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.

2) An input validation error in the AntServer Module can be exploited to e.g. download arbitrary files via directory traversal attacks.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 2.2. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Restrict network access to the AntServer Module.
