Description:
Juan Pablo Lopez Yacubian has discovered a vulnerability in Pidgin, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a use-after-free error within the "msn_slplink_process_msg()" function in libpurple/protocols/msnp9/slplink.c while processing MSN P2P file transfer requests. This can be exploited to dereference previously freed memory by tricking a user into accepting a file having a specially crafted filename.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is confirmed in versions 2.4.1 and 2.4.2. Prior versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Update to version 2.4.3 or later.
