Description: A security issue has been reported in Cygwin, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The security issue is caused due to setup.exe downloading package lists and packages over HTTP or FTP without proper integrity checks before installing the packages. This can be exploited to install malicious packages on an affected system when a user installs or updates packages.
Successful exploitation requires that a user is tricked into using a malicious mirror or e.g. a successful DNS spoofing attack.
The security issue is reported in setup.exe versions prior to 2.573.2.3.
Solution: Update setup.exe to version 2.573.2.3.
