Description


Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in Chilkat Crypt ActiveX Control, which can be exploited by malicious people to manipulate certain data and compromise a user's system.

1) The insecure "WriteFile()" method in the ChilkatCrypt2.ChilkatCrypt2.1 (ChilkatCrypt2.dll) ActiveX control can be exploited to create arbitrary files with controlled content in the context of the currently logged-on user.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows execution of arbitrary code.

2) The insecure "SaveDecrypted()" method in the ChilkatCrypt2.ChilkatOmaDrm.1 (ChilkatCrypt2.dll) ActiveX control can be exploited to create or overwrite arbitrary files in the context of the currently logged-on user.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in ChilkatCrypt2.dll version 4.3.2.1 and 4.4.7.0. Other versions may also be affected.


Solution:
Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX controls.
