Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Apache Geronimo, which can be exploited by malicious users to bypass certain security restrictions and by malicious people to conduct script insertion, cross-site scripting, and cross-site request forgery attacks.

1) Input passed to e.g. the "Services/Repository", "Embedded DB/DB Manager", and "Security/Keystores" portlets in the web administration console is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to upload arbitrary files to arbitrary directories via directory traversal attacks.

2) Input passed e.g. via the URL to console/portal/ in the web administration console is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

3) Input passed e.g. to the "name", "ip", "username", and "description" parameters in console/portal/Server/Monitoring is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in an administrative user's browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious data is viewed.

4) The web administration console allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP requests without performing any validity check to verify the requests. This can be exploited to e.g. change the web administration password or upload applications when a logged in administrator visits a malicious web page.

The vulnerabilities are reported in versions prior to 2.1.4.

Update to version 2.1.4.
