Description: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in MPLAB IDE, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
1) A boundary error when adding menu items can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via e.g. an overly long "[FILE_INFO]" entry in an MPLAB project file (".mcp").
2) A boundary error when processing project file entries can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via e.g. an overly long "[CAT_FILTERS]" entry in an MPLAB project file (".mcp").
3) A boundary error when formatting an error string can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via e.g. an overly long "[TOOL_SETTINGS]" entry in an MPLAB project file (".mcp").
Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities may allow execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 8.30. Other versions may also be affected.
