A vulnerability has been discovered in VLC Media Player, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "Win32AddConnection()" function in modules/access/smb.c. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by e.g. tricking a user into opening a playlist file having an overly long "smb://" URI.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
NOTE: The vulnerability affects Windows builds only.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 0.9.9. Other versions may also be affected.
