CVE Reference(s):

Description

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in OpenEXR, which can be exploited by malicious people to potentially compromise an application using the library.

1) An integer overflow error in the "PreviewImage::PreviewImage()" function can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

2) Multiple integer overflow errors in several compressor constructors can be exploited to cause heap-based buffer overflows.

3) An error can be exploited to free uninitialised pointers in "Imf::hufUncompress()" and potentially corrupt memory.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities may allow execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 1.6.1. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Do not process untrusted images with the library.
