Description:
A vulnerability has been reported in AIX, which can be exploited by malicious local users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of the "_LIB_INIT_DBG" and "_LIB_INIT_DBG_FILE" environment variables in a debugging component of the XL C++ runtime library. This can be exploited to create arbitrary writable files owned by root via a setuid root program linked with the XL C++ runtime library.

Successful exploitation allows to execute arbitrary code with root privileges.

The vulnerability is reported in the following libraries and versions:
AIX 5.3 and earlier:
/usr/lpp/xlC/lib/libC.a

AIX 6.1:
/usr/ccs/lib/libc.a
