Description:
Luigi Auriemma has reported some vulnerabilities in Source Engine, which can potentially be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service), bypass certain security restrictions, or compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A format string error exists when displaying console messages related to disconnecting players. This can be exploited to crash a server and potentially execute arbitrary code.

2) A NULL-pointer dereference error exists when handling certain SourceTV client packets and can be exploited to crash an affected server.

Successful exploitation requires that SourceTV is disabled (disabled by default).

3) The file upload handling does not properly check for directory traversal sequences, which can be exploited to upload arbitrary files into arbitrary locations on a server.

Note: It is also possible to delete arbitrary files by appending "/" to the filename.

4) The server does not properly deny file uploading, although the setting "sv_allowupload" is set to "0".

5) It is possible to consume large amounts of disk space by sending specially packets to an affected server.

6) An error within the handling of fragmented packets can be exploited to crash an affected server.

The vulnerabilities are reported in build 3698. Other versions may also be affected.
