Description:
Kingcope has discovered a security issue in FreeBSD's ftpd, which can be exploited by malicious users to bypass certain security restrictions.

The security issue is caused due to the ftpd not correctly checking for certain error conditions when trying to read a user's chroot information from /etc/ftpchroot. A user can exploit this to bypass the chroot protection by e.g. uploading ".login_conf" and ".login_conf.db" files with the "openfiles" resource limit set to 5 into a home directory.

The security issue is confirmed in FreeBSD 7.2. Other versions may also be affected.
