Description

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Geeklog, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions or conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) A vulnerability is caused due to Geeklog enabling the FCKEditor PHP connector without implementing proper authentication mechanisms, which can be exploited to e.g. access Geeklog's file libraries, create new subdirectories, or upload files.

This vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.6.0sr1. Other versions may also be affected.

2) Input passed via the "shortmsg" and "message" parameters to profiles.php is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

3) An error in the "Mail Story to a Friend" function when checking story permissions can potentially be exploited to email a story without having proper permissions to view the story.

These vulnerabilities are reported in versions prior to 1.6.0sr1 and 1.5.2sr5.

Solution
Update to version 1.6.0sr2.
