A vulnerability has been discovered in Zmanda Recovery Manager for MySQL, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error within socket-server.pl. This can be exploited to manipulate the path to the "mysqlhotcopy" script before it is being used in a call to "system()" via a specially crafted packet sent to an affected system.
Successful exploitation allows executing arbitrary code with the privileges of the MySQL user.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2.1.1 (Community Edition). Other version may also be affected.
