CVE Reference(s):

Description

Dominick LaTrappe has discovered a security issue in VideoCache, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges.

The security issue is caused due to the vccleaner utility accessing logfiles in an insecure manner, which can be exploited to e.g. write to arbitrary files via symlink attacks.

Successful exploitation requires write access to the "/var/log/videocache" directory (usually restricted to squid:squid).

The security issue is confirmed in version 1.9.2. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Restrict access to trusted users only.
