ThE g0bL!N has discovered a vulnerability in SoftCab Sound Converter ActiveX, which can be exploited by malicious people to overwrite arbitrary files.
The vulnerability is caused due to the SoftCab.SoundConverter ActiveX control (sndConverter.ocx) containing the insecure "SaveFormat()" method. This can be exploited to corrupt arbitrary files by tricking a user into visiting a malicious website.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.2. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX control.
