A vulnerability has been reported in Cisco InternetWork Performance Monitor (IPM), which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an error when processing Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) GIOP requests. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted "getProcessName" CORBA GIOP request.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges on a Windows system.
The vulnerability is reported in version 2.6 and earlier for Windows.
Solution: Contact the vendor for instructions on migrating to non-vulnerable software (please see the vendor advisory for details).
