A vulnerability has been reported in fetchmail, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the "sdump()" function in sdump.c when printing issuer and subject information of X.509 certificates, which can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.
Successful exploitation may allow the execution of arbitrary code but requires that fetchmail is run in verbose mode on a system where the "char" type is signed and the user is tricked into connecting to a malicious server.
The vulnerability is reported in versions 6.3.11, 6.3.12, and 6.3.13.
Solution: Update to version 6.3.14 or apply patch (see vendor's advisory).
