Description

Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in Yahoo! Player, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

1) A boundary error when processing playlist entries can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via e.g. a M3U file having an overly long entry.

2) A boundary error in the "Open()" method (YoPlyCd.dll) when processing requests to play a certain track can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long string passed in the "bstrMedia" parameter.

NOTE: An audio disc must be present in a CD drive.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities allows execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 1.5.01.409. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution
The product has been discontinued. For vulnerability #2 Microsoft has set the kill-bit for the ActiveX control via MS11-090.
