Red Hat has issued an update for the kernel. This fixes some vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions, disclose potentially sensitive information, and cause a DoS (Denial of Service), and by malicious people to cause a DoS.

1) The "ptrace()" implementation on Itanium systems does not correctly verify the user's permissions. This can be exploited by malicious, local users to use "ptrace()" on processes they don't own.
