A vulnerability has been discovered in Splunk, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
Input passed via the "Referer" header is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user within a HTTP 404 error message. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
Successful exploitation requires the victim to use Internet Explorer.
The vulnerability is reported in versions 4.0 through 4.1.1 and confirmed in 4.1.2.
Solution: Update to version 4.1.3.
