A vulnerability has been reported in FreeBSD, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to the read-only flag of an mbuf object not being correctly copied when mbuf buffer references are duplicated. This can be exploited via the "sendfile(2)" system call to modify arbitrary files that the attacker has read access to.
The vulnerability is reported in FreeBSD 7.x and later.
