A vulnerability has been reported in Samba, which can be exploited by malicious people to potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "sid_parse()" and "dom_sid_parse()" functions when handling the binary representation of a Windows Security ID (SID). This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow in the smbd daemon.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerability is reported in 3.x versions prior to 3.5.5.
Solution: Update to version 3.5.5.
