Description

A vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft .NET Framework, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose sensitive information.

The vulnerability is caused due to improper error handling within ASP.NET during cryptographic padding verification with algorithms using PKCS #7 padding (e.g. AES and 3DES). This can be exploited to decrypt data, e.g. the View State, via returned error codes from an affected server.

Successful exploitation further allows tampering with encrypted data and e.g. downloading arbitrary files from affected systems running ASP.Net 3.5 SP1 or above.

The vulnerability is reported in Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP3 through Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.
