A vulnerability has been reported in Samba, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially gain escalated privileges and by malicious users to cause a DoS and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to missing range checks on file descriptors related to the "FD_SET" macro, which can be exploited to corrupt stack-based memory by performing a select on a specially crafted file descriptor set.
The vulnerability is reported in all 3.x versions prior to 3.5.7.
Solution: Update to version 3.5.7 or apply patches.
