Parvez Anwar has discovered a vulnerability in LuraWave JP2 Browser Plug-In, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an error in npjp2.dll when processing the Quantization Default (QCD) marker segment. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted JPEG2000 (JP2) file.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires tricking a user into visiting a malicious web page.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 188.8.131.52. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Upgrade to version 184.108.40.206.
