Some vulnerabilities have been reported in LibTIFF, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise an application using the library.
1) Two integer overflow errors in the "gtTileSeparate()" and "gtStripSeparate()" functions (libtiff/tif_getimage.c) when parsing images can be exploited to cause heap-based buffer overflows via specially crafted TIFF images.
2) A type casting error in the "TIFFReadDirectory()" function (tif_dirread.c) when parsing a tiled image can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted TIFF image.
This vulnerability is reported in versions prior to 4.0.x only.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities may allow execution of arbitrary code.
Solution: Apply patches. Update to version 4.0.x which fixes vulnerability #2.
