Some security issues have been reported in libvirt, which can be exploited by malicious, local users in a guest virtual machine to manipulate certain data.
The security issues are caused due to the application performing operations on "/dev" without performing proper validity checks on the destination path. This can be exploited to e.g. manipulate certain files on the host file system via symlink attacks.
Successful exploitation requires the use of LXC containers for a guest system.
The security issues are reported in versions 1.1.4 and 1.2.0. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Fixed in the source code repository.
