A security issue has been reported in libvirt, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to manipulate certain data.
The security issue is caused due to the application performing operations on "/dev/initctl" without performing proper validity checks on the destination path. This can be exploited to e.g. manipulate certain files on the host file system via symlink attacks.
Successful exploitation requires the use of LXC containers for a guest system.
The security issue is reported in versions 1.1.4 and 1.2.0. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Fixed in the source code repository.
