Description: A vulnerability has been identified in Internet Explorer's 'web archive' format (files with the extension ".mht").
Reportedly, the vulnerability is caused by a boundary error when handling encoded executables along with malformed MIME header in the 'Web Archive' and can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on a user's system. This has not been proven, though.
However, from analysing the crash dump enclosed in the original advisory, the vulnerability seems to be caused by a NULL pointer dereference bug and not a boundary error. This indicates that the vulnerability cannot be exploited to compromise a user's system but only cause Internet Explorer to crash.
Other security experts have come to a similar conclusion.
