Description:
Debian has issued updated packages for mime-support. These fix two vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to escalate their privileges.

One vulnerability is caused due to insecure creation of temporary files. This can be exploited via a symlink attack to overwrite arbitrary files on the system with the privileges of the user executing "run-mailcap" - typically "root".

The other vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error. Certain shell escape characters are not escaped properly when commands are executed. However, Debian states that exploitation of this vulnerability is highly unlikely.
