Description

A vulnerability has been identified in Opera, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct Cross-Site Scripting attacks against a user.

User input passed to the file "console.html" is not validated properly, which can be exploited to inject arbitrary script code. This can be exploited to execute script code on a user's system, which can result in disclosure of various information (eg. reading of local files and directory listings).

The vulnerability has been reported to affect the following versions:
Opera 7.10 build 2840
Opera 7.03 build 2670
Opera 7.02 build 2668
Opera 7.02 bork build 2656b
Opera 7.01 build 2651

This vulnerability is very similar to an older vulnerability discovered by GreyMagic.

Solution
Opera Software has released Opera version 7.11 for Windows, which fixes the vulnerability. Opera version 7.11 beta 2 for Linux will also be officially released soon.
