Description: Some vulnerabilities have been identified in Firebird, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to escalate privileges on a vulnerable system.
The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors when the binaries "gds_inet_server", "gds_drop", and "gds_lock_mgr" use the environment variable "INTERBASE". This can be exploited by setting an overly long, specially crafted value for "INTERBASE", which will cause a buffer overflow and allow execution of arbitrary code with escalated privileges.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.0.0 and 1.0.2. Other versions may also be affected.
An exploit has been released.
