Description:
A vulnerability has been discovered in P-News, which allows malicious members to become administrators.
The problem is that the database uses "|" as a delimiter. However, the "|" character is not filtered or escaped from input. This allows malicious members to inject arbitrary fields to the database including the attribute setting privileges.
If a user changes hes name to:
Peter|-|21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3|-|0|-|none@nowhere|-|
The database contents will then show:
Admin|-|21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3|-|0|-|p-news-admin@somewhere|-|
Peter|-|21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3|-|0|-|none@nowhere.com|-||-|179ad45c6ce2cb97cf1029e212046e81|-|2|-|peter@aol.com|-|
Now "Peter" has become administrator.
