Description: A vulnerability has been identified in Novell iChain, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) on a vulnerable system and potentially compromise it.
The vulnerablity is caused due to a boundary error in the authentication code handling usernames. The problem is that the size of usernames is only restricted by a "SIZE" parameter in a HTML form, which can be easily bypassed.
A malicious, non-authenticated person can exploit this to cause a buffer overflow by supplying an overly long username (about 230 bytes long). This will cause the iChain Server to stop responding.
Reportedly, the vulnerability could potentially be exploited to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system, though this has not been proven.
