Description: Debian has issued updated packages for nethack. These fix two vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by a malicious, local user to escalate privileges on a vulnerable system.
A boundary error in the handling of data supplied to the "-s" parameter at the command line can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow. This could potentially allow exectution of arbitrary code with the privileges of the "games" group.
Reportedly, an access control error allows anyone with "games" group privileges to replace certain binaries in the nethack package. This could allow execution of arbitrary code with the privileges of any user running nethack.
