Description

Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Message Foundry, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct Cross-Site Scripting attacks, gain knowledge of passwords, and change these.

Missing input validation of the "NAME" field can be exploited to conduct Cross-Site Scripting attacks against other users by posting an entry where script code has been included in the field. The script code will be executed in a user's browser when the entry is viewed and can result in disclosure of various information (eg. cookie-based authentication information) associated with the site running Message Foundry or inclusion of malicious content, which the user thinks is part of the real website.

An access control error can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain knowledge of the Administrator username and password. The problem is that anyone on the local system may access the file "MF.ini", which stores the information in plain text.

Reportedly, any authenticated user may change another user's password as long as the users are in the same area (public / private). This can be exploited in the "Edit Profile" section by supplying an arbitrary username in the "New Login ID" and specifying a new password.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 2.75.0003. However, other versions may also be affected.
