Description

Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in IBM DB2 allowing malicious, local users to escalate their privileges.

1) It is possible for malicious, local users with user "bin" privileges to escalate their privileges to "root". The problem is that the IBM db2 directories are owned by user "bin". This allows user "bin" to alter ".so" and other files, which can be exploited to execute arbitrary code with "root" privileges.

2) Members of group "db2asgrp" can use the setuid root "db2job" binary to write arbitrary files with "root" privileges. These files are owned by "root" and are executable by "root" and the "db2asgrp" group.

Issue 1 has been reported to affect DB2 from 7.1 to 8.1
Issue 2 has been reported to affect DB2 7.1

Example exploits have been published for both issues.

Solution
Don't assign user "bin" nor group "db2asgrp" privileges to anyone who doesn't need it.
