Hi palmierj & welcome to the Forum

If this program is showing in the End of life tab this means the vendor
is no longer supporting this product. You can create a Ignore rule & keep
the program but you'll never be advised of any new vulnerabilities-risky at best.

To remove the program it may have a 1. uninstaller 2. it may be populated
in Add/Remove Programs 3. Use the PSI in the Advanced mode & click the
[+] to reveal the 'file path' for manual removal. 4. Use a 3rd party uninstaller such as VS Revo Uninstaller.

Hope this helps.

Regards, wr

Hi A secunia scan just now has highlighted that CyberLink PowerStarter 6.x is also end of life. I've googled to try to find if the software manufacturer's site says anything but I can't find it yet.
This came bundled with my new HP Presario CQ71 laptop - as I'm calling in PC World (the retailers) shortly I'll ask them.
Later.

PC World weren't aware that PowerStarter 6.x has been tagged by Secunia as end of life/vulnerable. Nor did they know if their current products on sale are bundled with it - nor did they appear to care.
I find this unacceptable, both from a security point of view and also as a customer. I bought a product that no longer will allow me to burn disks etc, if I choose to uninstall PowerStarter. They weren't interested in supplying me with another program free of charge and suggested that I google. They did say that I could install Nero from a disk that was 'left in my desktop' when it had a new hard drive fitted this week.
What???????????
PS When Secunia report such vulnerabilities presumably you tell the manufacturer but there is nothing on CyberLink's website about this problem.

Hi all

I don't normally endorse any product on this Forum except
the PSI. All products have + & - points--it's just a matter of ones
preference & what feels comfortable.

Having said that there's one web site that does reviews & testing on Free software
& seems to be very popular. Here's the link: http://www.techsupportalert.com/

In my opinion we're getting way off topic as to the Original Posters
question. If the OP isn't going to respond , either negatively or positively, after this many replies, Secunia would you please lock this thread?

Regards, wr

If by that you mean my rant about PC World, yeah, you're probably right. I will take this further with PCW.

In my defence, my original post was to warn that version 6.x is also now scanned as 'End of Life' and that there is no mention of the problem on CyberLink's web site - which I would have expected.

I could not patch it so I uninstalled and replaced it with Nero 9 Lite (freeware)

thanks Mike.
PCW's local branch gave me Nero. I haven't had chance to install it yet as I haven't had time.
So I take it that you didn't try Cyberlink 10, per your post here:

Is this a free upgrade? I went to the site you put a link to and could not find anything I understood about upgrading CyberLink PowerStarter 5.0.

For my limited understanding it appeared to be upgrading to a Full CyberLink DVD and none was free.
